Here We Go Again

Posted on 2:00 PM by Unknown
After 4 days off of antibiotics Parker began running fever again. I took him in to see Dr. Glass on Monday and his ears were either still infected from this last time or became infected again. He figures that his ears didn't fully heal this last time and the fluid that remained in his ears caused the current infection.

This is where I almost cried...I mean seriously. Can't my baby go a full month without having to take antibiotics or pain relievers? I'm so thankfull I was blessed with an easy going baby, he sucks the medicine from the dropper, but I still would love to not have to give it to him.

I've been home since yesterday, from the looks of his temperature today I will have to either use another vacation day tomorrow or lie to daycare and go to work. Before nap time his temp was 100.7, daycare won't allow them to come if they have a temperature of 100.4 or higher and they must be fever free for 24 hours before returning. So yeah...I'm not sure what we're going to do yet, it depends on what his temperature is in the morning. All I can say is thank the Lord I have an understanding boss and at least a week of vacation time left.

We found out today that unlike last time Parker had surgery, the doctor's office requires that we pay our portion of the deposit (this is what Dr. H's office gets) a week prior to the surgery. They called today looking for payment and I simply told them it wasn't going to happen today. I asked about a payment plan like we did last time and they said that they don't do that anymore.

Basically we had two options, we could either pay them their money (more than I make a pay check) by Thursday or we had to cancel the surgery until we could pay. Michael called them back and told them that there was no possible way we could afford to pay the lump sum by Thursday and we canceled the surgery.

I know what you're thinking, "Krista, he needs the surgery!" yeah I know, and I cried just thinking about it but when it comes to paying a doctor's office up front for a surgery or paying bills to keep a roof over our heads with AC/heat and electricity, a car in the driveway, and food on the table well we're going to go with option B.

We called another ENT in our area that was recommended to us along with Dr. H to see if he and his office would work with us. We explained our situation and we have an appointment on Thursday morning. To be honest, it can't come soon enough, Parker has been pointing to his ears and fussing so I know he's hurting.

I really hope that we can get Parker all fixed up, he has been such a trooper but he deserves a break from this.

I just realized that I didn't update McFatty Monday yesterday! I'm going to make this short and sweet because nap time is almost over.

Last week, week 11 I believe, was pretty good! I didn't do anything fantastic or anything, I just ate correct portion sizes and didn't go overboard with bad foods. I lost one more pound! I'm so happy that I'm back on track, I feel like maybe I really CAN do this! 21.5 pounds to go!!

Hope you're all having a great week!

McFatty Tuesday...

Posted on 9:35 AM by Unknown
I'm a day late but that's alright! I'm still here and while I'm still stressed and have very little time I wanted to update y'all on my week as well as kiddo's ears.

I'll go ahead and start with the kiddo, we went to his ear doctor yesterday morning and thankfully got some great information and reassurance. I was so worried about Parker having another surgery and Dr. H really calmed my nerves.

Parker is scheduled for an adenoidectomy and another set of tubes on April 5th and then he'll have another day to recover on the 6th. I'm ok right now but I know that on the morning of the surgery I am going to be a nervous wreck. This time insted of just going into the ear canal they'll have to intubate him and get the adenoides out through his mouth. It's scary to think about but I'm triny very hard to think of my little boy enjoying life ear infection free. If you feel comfortable I'd like to ask you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers that morning, I'd really appreciate it.

Now! On to McFatty Monday on a Tuesday. Last week which was what week...10 or 11? I have no idea at the moment but anyway, it was ok! I made some poor choices here and there and wasn't expecting much of a loss.

As usual I got up Sunday morning all groggy and got on the scale. I looked down at the number, blinked a couple of times, rubbed my eyes and looked again and there it was...147.5. What? This can't be right. I went into the bedroom to get my phone and put the number into my weight tracker. 2 pounds lost this week!! How in the world did this happen?

I believe that it was a combination of skipping breakfast a couple of times and no longer hanging out with Aunt Flo. I must have been retaining water last week.

I'm pretty happy with that number and I'm hoping I can stay on track as this stressful month comes to a close. I even went shopping on Saturday (before I weighd obvs.) and was feeling great, I got some new church clothes and a pair of ankle jeans from Old Navy. It was a great day...it always is when you feel good about yourself.

Has anyone had a week or month like mine? What did you do to stay on track?

Stress, stress, stress

Posted on 10:33 AM by Unknown
Stress is the word of the week…maybe it should be the word of the month. I’m so stressed that I feel like if I were to shut down and let myself rest I would probably sleep for a week. Of course I can’t do that because I’ve got my boys to take care of! I haven’t been blogging because I simply don’t have time or the energy but hopefully we can get things worked out and I’ll be back.

Stress started creeping in last month when I took Parker for a regular check up with his ENT; he had an ear infection in his left ear which is the ear that no longer has a tube. If you remember, he had tubes put into his ears last May and after the surgery Parker was fine and ear infection free for maybe 2 months before he started having them again.

When I was sitting in the exam room with kiddo listening to the ENT tell him what a good boy he was (he is so used to having his ears looked at that he sits perfectly still every time) I worried that he would say it and he did. “Yeah…his left ear has some fluid, it’s infected.” The sad thing was that I already knew the routine, antibiotic for 10 days; drops in the right ear for 7 days to keep it clear and cough medicine for his other symptoms. Then he said something I didn’t expect, “We’ll need to see him in a month, if he’s had another infection between now and then we want to talk to you about removing the adenoids and replacing the tubes.” Oh...

I was worried, I thought back to last May when we took him in for the first surgery and how scared I was. They took him back and did everything, I didn’t have to watch him be put under thank God but seeing him as he was waking up was so hard for me. He cried and was scared and I had to try very hard not to cry with him, to reassure him that he was ok…it was a hard day. To find out that we would possibly have to do it again just hurt my heart. I don’t want my sweet boy to have to go through that again! Why didn’t they remove the adenoids in the first place? Do they really need to; is that really the cause for the infections or do they just think it is? I was upset to say the least.

I was hopeful that we wouldn’t need the surgery, maybe they’ll clear up now that it’s warming up outside…maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll stop.

Last Sunday night he felt warm…crap. I gave him a bath and shrugged his temperature off thinking it was because the house was warm and Michael had been complaining about being hot. I got him to bed and everything looked to be fine until 10:30 when he woke up crying, he had fever of 101.8. I gave him Motrin and put him in bed with us where he quickly went back to sleep. At 1 he woke me up and threw up in the bed, his fever had gone up to 102 with Motrin in his system. After a trip to the tub, a diaper change and new sheets we were back to bed and slept most of the night but he was up and down, not able to get comfortable.

At the doctor’s office the next day I knew what the doctor was going to say, Parker had a double ear infection. Another 10 days worth of antibiotic were prescribed and he recommended the surgery. He said we could wait and see if the infections clear up but considering he’s had infections once a month since September the surgery was probably our best bet.

I was home with him Monday, and Tuesday due to fever, he was so fussy and you could just tell he didn’t feel well. If you know Parker then you know he is normally a happy care free kiddo even when he’s sick so I knew he must feel terrible.

The fact that on top of everything else he’s got going on, the antibiotic (which he’s taken multiple times) is giving him terrible diarrhea and some of the worst diaper rash he’s ever had is the cherry on top. He’s had constant BMs this week, at least 4 a day and if he sits in the diaper for even 5 minutes he gets a rash.

This morning was hard for me; I got him to daycare late because he’d had 4 accidents, 3 at home and one on the way to daycare. His bottom is raw and not only is it covered in a rash; he has sores in some places. I called the doctor’s office and left a message for the nurse but all she said was to put him in a baking soda bath twice a day for the rash and give him an over the counter powder with his food to help the diarrhea. I didn’t want to leave him at daycare today, I wanted to stay home and let him run around naked to help the rash air out and just take care of him. I have to remember that it’s Friday and I will have all weekend to take care of him and get him all healed up, I just don’t have anymore time to take from work.

I’ve been really good, I’m worried but I know that daycare will call if there is a problem but there have been multiple times that I’ve picked up the phone to call and check in on him.

Monday morning we go to the ENT and I already called and told them to put a note in his chart that he has a double ear infection so I’m sure we’ll be discussing surgery. If anyone has any advice on the subjects of diaper rash, diarrhea, or adenoid surgery please feel free to share. Oh and if you’ve made it to the end of this ginormous post thank you so much for reading, sometimes a momma just needs to let it out!

Unfair

Posted on 12:55 PM by Unknown
Dear Oreo Cookie Blizzard,

Why do you have to be so delicious? Why, after these 2 long months do you still tease me and call for me to come and get you? It has to stop.

I've been sitting here at my desk trying to figure out a way to squeeze your mini sized goodness into my day's alotted points. How is this possible? I haven't enjoyed one single bite in 2 months and yet I can still remember the smell and taste of my yummy treat!

15 PointsPlus, that's how many points a small cup of heaven is. I love you Oreo Cookie Blizzard and it's hard enough that you live not 1 minute from my house. I have to drive past you every day on my way home and talk myself out of the treat I deserve after my crappy work day.

I will not stop at Dairy Queen on my way home today, you are NOT worth it...if I've had a good week then maybe I will indulge this weekend but not today.

PS. Please stop telling my husband to bring you home for me to enjoy, he doesn't understand that I can't resist you!

Thanks so much,
