Well That Was Unexpected

Posted on 3:49 PM by Unknown
Parker and I had a long interesting day today. The morning started out like every Tuesday morning, I got up, got showered and got dressed before going in to get Parker. He was already up and was crying for me to come get him and when I went in to his room he had pooped all over his crib. I got him out and cleaned him up but he needed a bath so I got him in the tub and cleaned him up. After his bath I called the doctor's office to see if I could move his well appointment to today because he's had diarrhea since Friday. We got the appointment moved to 10 this morning so I made Parker breakfast and we took a little nap before the appointment.

At the appointment I found out that Parker's left ear is infected and that he has a stomach virus. Poor kiddo! So he isn't having an issue with milk WOO! Dr. Glass said it would be best for Parker to stay home and rest so we went to the grocery store to grab food for lunch and dinner and then went home.

I had this thought today that since Parker is one now, I'd let him try a peanut butter sandwich for lunch...this was a BAD idea. Although there are no allergies in either mine or Michael's families, Parker is allergic. I made the sandwich and tore it up into little bite size pieces and let him try it. He spit out the first piece but put it back into his mouth so I just put some peanut butter on my finger and let him taste it...he immediately broke out into hives. There were hives all over his chest and his face was all red and splotchy. I was freaking out. He was rubbing his eyes and scratching his chest, I pulled it up online and saw that he could stop breathing. Of course I grabbed him up put him in the car and drove to the doctor's office.

When I got to the office, the receptionist said there wasn't a doctor there at that time (lunch) and that I needed to take him to the emergency room. I won't bore you with the story of the 3 hour visit but basically I got here with my child covered in hives and was asked to sign papers and then wait...I waited and then was called back to fill out more paperwork and asked to go back and wait some more. After an hour or so we were called back for them to get his vitals, weight and temperature, by this time the hives were fading and Parker was getting antsy. We finally were called back to a room and waited there for another 30 minutes or so before a nurse practitioner came in to tell us not to give him peanuts and to check everything he eats for peanut products DUH...gave us a prescription for Zyrtec.

We finally got home and Parker has been asleep since then! Poor baby boy, allergic to peanut butter, has an ear infection and a stomach virus!

On a happy note...I did lose those 2 pounds that I was trying to get rid of!
